![]() Add the chips to the preheated Foodi Grill.Air fryers drastically reduce the amount of oil needed, but it is still important for achieving the desired result. This is important if you want a golden, crunchy chip. Coat the chips in a good quality, high smoke-point vegetable oil.Set the Ninja Foodi Grill to air fry at 200 C for 24 minutes and preheat.I usually let mine sit for about 20 minutes while I cook the salmon. Most of the excess moisture will evaporate, but it is a good idea to shake the chips a few times to allow any trapped moisture to escape. Boil for 2-3 minutes, then drain and set aside. Place in a large saucepan with cold water and bring to the boil. Give it at least ten minutes and change the water a couple of times. You can do this earlier in the day and leave the chips to soak. This will remove some of the starch and result in a lighter, fluffier chip. I made shoestring fries for this recipe, but the same procedure works just as well with a thicker cut. Whether aiming for thick-cut or shoestring fries, the aim is to be consistent. Use a sharp knife to cut chips to desired width.Use as many as you think your family will eat, then add a few more. You also need to be prepared to try a few times. If you want the satisfaction of serving delicious hand-made chips from scratch, there are a few tricks to know. Don’t let anyone guilt you into thinking this isn’t a perfectly reasonable option. If you are short of time, prepared chips from the freezer section of the supermarket cook up nicely in the Ninja Foodi Grill. I kept mine warm in the oven while I air-fried the chips. Watch for the beautiful, golden-brown colour. You will need to check on them regularly towards the end of the cooking time. Mine took slightly less time to cook, about 17 minutes. Check on nuggets every five minutes and turn if necessary.If you don’t have a Foodi Grill, this could be done in the oven. Set the Ninja Foodi Grill to bake and the temperature to 190 C.Coat thoroughly in panko breadcrumbs mixture.Shake off any excess flour and coat in egg mixture.Be sure to make sure they are fully coated. They don’t have to all be the same, I kept mine quite rustic. Cut salmon into small chunks – about 3-4cm.Whisk together with a fork until combined Place egg in a second shallow bowl and add a little olive oil, about half a tablespoon should be good.This does make the panko clump together a little, but it helps with achieving a crisp, golden-brown crust. (optional) add a drizzle of olive oil.They work for my tastes, but feel free to change it up and experiment a bit. Place panko breadcrumbs in a shallow bowl.If you are making the salmon nuggets with chips, peel, cut and soak and par-boil the potato before starting on the salmon (more details in the Excellent Air Fryer Chips recipe below). This method produces a wonderfully crispy and tasty crust with a tender, melt-in-your-mouth flesh. Both kids (and parents) love it, and it is such a versatile fish. I’ll leave it up to you to decide how to complete the meal. There are many options for sides, from steamed veggies to a salad. There are two main components to this recipe – the fish and the chips.
